STUDY SKILLS • SHORELINE & ONLINE
A student can understand a lesson and still struggle to start an assignment, remember a deadline or prepare for a test. MyHLC offers study skills support for K–12 students in Shoreline and online. Tell us what happens during a typical school week so we can discuss a practical starting point.
Tell us a little about the student. We’ll follow up to discuss options and availability.
For students under 13, a parent or guardian should inquire. Please avoid sensitive documents. Inquiries are saved and emailed to our team. Website terms.

Assignments can arrive through several classes and school systems. A single list of tasks and deadlines can help a student see what is due and decide what to begin. The useful question is whether the routine is simple enough to keep using.
02
A large project can feel difficult to start because the first action is unclear. Turn ‘finish the report’ into separate steps such as choosing a question, gathering notes, drafting one section and checking the instructions.
03
Reading notes repeatedly is not the only way to review. A student can explain an idea without looking, try a practice question, then check what was missed. Match the activity to what the class actually asks the student to do.
A PRACTICAL EXAMPLE
Imagine a report is due on Friday. Instead of writing ‘work on report’ every afternoon, the student lists three milestones: outline the main points, draft the sections, then revise against the teacher’s instructions. Each milestone gets a realistic place in the week.
This example is a starting idea, not a fixed schedule for every student. Younger students may need more adult involvement; older students may benefit from choosing and evaluating their own routine.
If a student consistently avoids math because the concepts are unclear, a planner alone will not address the difficulty. Pair organizational support with the relevant learning needs. Our math, reading and writing pages explain the subject support available.
In your inquiry, describe missed assignments, difficult transitions or preparation habits without sending sensitive records. Ask how a tutor would select a manageable goal and discuss progress with the family.
They have different emphases. Study skills focuses on how a student organizes and approaches work. Subject tutoring addresses understanding within a class. Some students may need both.
That is a useful concern to discuss. Describe when the difficulty occurs and what has already been tried. A smaller first step and a realistic routine may be relevant, but the right approach depends on the student.
No. This page describes educational support with schoolwork and routines. It does not establish a diagnostic, medical or specialist ADHD treatment service. Ask about staff experience and suitability for any specific learning need.
Share the student’s grade, the routine that feels difficult and preferred times. The team will discuss appropriate support and availability. Read Parent FAQs for enrollment questions.
