Science asks students to do more than remember terms. They need to explain relationships, read data and apply ideas to unfamiliar questions. MyHLC offers K–12 science support in Shoreline and online. Tell us the course and current unit so we can discuss appropriate support and availability.

A student may recognize a definition without being able to explain it in a different situation. Connecting words to examples can reveal what needs more attention.

Questions often ask students to identify a pattern, compare observations or decide whether data support a conclusion.

Units, formulas and mathematical steps can create an additional barrier. Include a sample topic when asking about tutor availability for your course.
A LEARNING EXAMPLE
Imagine a graph showing how a plant’s height changes over several weeks. First read the axes and units. Then describe the pattern. Finally, distinguish what the measurements show from a claim about why the plant grew.
That distinction matters: observing growth alone does not establish which condition caused it.
Elementary science, a middle-school unit and a high-school course can require very different preparation. Include the subject, grade, current unit and whether the difficulty involves explanations, calculations or interpreting results.
