ACT PREPARATION • SHORELINE & ONLINE

ACT Prep in Shoreline & Online

Build a clearer plan for your next ACT.

Preparing for the ACT starts with understanding what needs attention. A student may know the material but lose time, miss details in a passage or repeat the same algebra mistakes. Discuss ACT preparation with MyHLC in Shoreline or live online, with your target test date and recent practice results in mind.

Where should ACT preparation focus?

01

English and reading

English questions ask students to make decisions about language and how ideas are expressed. Reading work involves finding evidence, following an argument and separating a passage’s main point from supporting details. Explain which tasks feel difficult so the team can discuss suitable support.

02

Math knowledge and application

Knowing a formula is different from recognizing when to use it. Bring examples of questions that were missed or took too long. Reviewing the reasoning behind an answer can be more useful than repeating a large set without understanding the errors.

03

Pacing and optional sections

Practice should reflect the version and sections you will take. ACT’s core sections are English, math and reading; science and writing are optional additions. Check your registration and prospective colleges’ requirements before deciding which sections to prepare for.

MAKE PRACTICE USEFUL

Turn one practice result into a next step

After a practice section, sort missed questions into three groups: content you did not know, questions you misread and questions you rushed. Choose one recurring issue for focused practice, then try a fresh set to see whether the approach helps.

This is an illustrative study method, not a prediction of score improvement. Use current materials from ACT’s official website and record which test version you used. Source checked September 12, 2026.

Share your timeline and starting point

Include your grade, intended test date, recent section scores if available and the time you can realistically set aside each week. You do not need a completed practice test before making an inquiry. Ask about tutor availability, session frequency and costs before enrolling.

If you are comparing exams, explore our SAT preparation page. Admissions and scholarship policies vary, so check the institutions that matter to you directly.
